Privacy Policy
Effective date: January 1, 2025
1. Overview
SlashFeed ("we", "us", or "our") is a self-hosted RSS/Atom feed aggregator. This policy describes what personal data we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding that data. We keep things simple: your data is yours, and we will never sell it.
2. Data We Collect
- Account information — your email address, used to identify your account and deliver magic-link login emails.
- Feed subscriptions — the RSS/Atom feed URLs you subscribe to so we can fetch and display articles for you.
- Reading history — which entries you have read, saved for later, starred, annotated, or tagged. Used to personalise your experience and power reading statistics.
- Device tokens — APNs device tokens from the iOS app, used solely to deliver push notifications to your device.
- Usage analytics — aggregate, anonymised page-view events to understand how the app is used. No third-party trackers.
3. How We Use Your Data
- To operate and improve the SlashFeed service.
- To personalise your feed reader experience (unread counts, recommendations, stats).
- To send push notifications you have explicitly opted in to.
- To send transactional emails (magic-link login, password resets).
We do not sell, share, or rent your personal data to third parties. We do not use it for advertising.
4. Data Retention
Your data is retained for as long as your account is active. Deleting your account permanently removes all associated data — feed subscriptions, reading history, annotations, starred entries, and device tokens — within 30 days.
5. Deleting Your Account
You can delete your account at any time from Settings → Danger Zone. This action is irreversible. Alternatively, email us at [email protected] and we will delete your account within 7 days.
6. Security
All data is transmitted over HTTPS. Passwords are hashed with bcrypt and never stored in plain text. API tokens are stored as SHA-256 digests only. We follow industry-standard security practices, but no system is perfectly secure — please use a strong, unique password and enable two-factor authentication.
7. Third-Party Services
SlashFeed fetches content from the RSS/Atom feed URLs you subscribe to. Those feeds are operated by third parties and are subject to their own privacy policies. We do not embed third-party analytics, advertising networks, or social widgets.
8. Your Rights
Depending on your jurisdiction you may have rights to access, correct, export, or erase your personal data. To exercise any of these rights, email us at [email protected].
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be announced via the app or email. Continued use after notice constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
