A reader for the open web.

SlashFeed exists because the way most of us read online stopped being our choice. We're building the antidote.

The open web was built on a simple promise: anyone can publish, and anyone can subscribe. RSS was the plumbing that made it work — a quiet, universal way to follow the sources you actually care about, in the order they were published, with nothing in between.

Then feeds got buried under algorithms. Timelines were reordered to maximise engagement. Recommendations replaced subscriptions. What you read stopped being what you chose and started being what kept you scrolling.

SlashFeed puts you back in charge. You pick your sources. You set the filters. You own the feed. No ranking model deciding what you see, no ads, no profile of your attention sold to the highest bidder — just the web, the way you asked for it.

What we believe

Your attention is yours. A reader should serve you, not a metric. Chronological by default, filtered by your rules, quiet by design.

Privacy isn't a feature, it's the baseline. We don't build an ad profile. We don't sell data. What you read is your business — read the privacy policy to see exactly how we handle it.

Open standards, not walled gardens. RSS, Atom, JSON Feed, OPML, Fever, Miniflux, MCP. Bring your subscriptions in and take them out any time — your feed list is never held hostage.

Open source, on the way

We think software that reads the open web should itself be open. SlashFeed will be open source. We're not there yet — for now it's a hosted service you can start using today — but opening the source is firmly on the roadmap. When it lands, you'll be able to self-host the whole thing for free and see exactly how it works, line by line.

Want to follow along? Star the repo at github.com/boringly-stuff/slashfeed — the source, the apps, and the command-line tools will all land there.

Heads up: the GitHub organisation, app-store listings, and browser-extension pages are placeholders while we prepare the launch. See apps & extensions for what's live today and what's coming.
